Chimney Sound Designer Fredrik Dalenfjäll brings home Guldbaggen alongside Andreas Franck for their work on 438 Days, together earning the prestigious title in the category Best Sound/Sound design
This is Dalenfjäll’s first Guldbaggen, and another trophy for Chimney to both humbly and proudly add to our award roster.
“I’m really thrilled. It almost feels a little surreal. I’ve been smiling since yesterday night,” the Gothenburg-based sound designer says.
Injecting the right feeling into the film was the biggest challenge, says Dalenfjäll. “We needed to make the sound realistic and authentic, with a little bit of a documentary feeling, but still keep a high-end sound quality,” he says.
It was also key to build up the surrounding atmosphere in the shots.
“A lot of things are going on off screen in the film, so sound plays a very important role. It needs to tell things that the audience can’t see – only imagine,” Dalenfjäll adds.
This was achieved by testing many different tactics throughout the duration of the project.
“I think Andreas and I complemented each other well,” says Dalenfjäll. “And I guess we managed to ultimately tackle things quite well!”
“I’m honored to work with such talents as we have here at Chimney,” says Chimney Gothenburg Managing Director Jenny Stamming.
“I know there was a lot of hard work behind this prize and a relentless drive to deliver nothing short of the absolute best. At Chimney we always strive to create to engage the audience – and with 438 Days Fredrik truly achieved this. If you haven’t seen the movie yet – I highly recommend you do – and don’t forget to put the volume up!”
What an honor and a testimony to great work from the two world-class sound pros and Chimney’s entire sound crew. Congratulations to Fredrik and Andreas for their big win!
